Nigel Goodall is a British-born author with almost 20 original books on the movie and pop worlds to his credit, which combined, have sold over a million copies worldwide, and include the bestselling What’s Eating Johnny Depp, and a prize-nominated biography of Winona Ryder.
Although an English native, his love of American movies led him to pen the first-ever biography of Demi Moore, which became the basis for three major television documentaries, transmitted in the USA, Canada and Europe.
Nigel’s other books – on rock music and musicians – have included studies on Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Cher and George Michael, and with co-author Peter Lewry, a trilogy of highly acclaimed books on Cliff Richard. He has also written numerous articles for magazines such as TV Times and Record Collector, and contributed to various album, video and television projects for such companies as EMI, BMG, Jive, PWL, Channel 4, MSNBC, E! Networks and A&E Biography.
One of the early highlights in his writing career was an exclusive interview with Cliff Richard and the opportunity to observe the singer at work in the studio for his 1990 co-authored account of Cliff’s recording sessions. He and Peter have also been instrumental in the revival of Cliff’s back catalogue of recordings for over a decade with some notable merits on over 40 albums and box sets.
Nigel has also lent his expertise to several Elvis Presley CD projects, including the compilation and liner notes for the 2001 set of Elvis Ultimate Collections and The Live Greatest Hits. He was also the track historian for the JXL remix of Elvis’ # 1 hit, A Little Less Conversation.
Formerly a graphic designer with over 300 record sleeves to his name, a brief spell as a pop manager, voice-over artist and disc jockey, and the co-producer of the syndicated 1978 Elvis Gospel radio special, he was also an actor for drama groups in Sussex, where he still lives with his extensive film and music archive.
Complimenting his top ten bestseller, Kylie Naked: A Biography, co-authored with Jenny Stanley-Clarke, Nigel has also penned the liner notes for the 2002 upgrade of Kylie’s original Greatest Hits album, and the multi-platinum Ultimate Kylie, with Neil Rees and Tom Parker. He has since written the programme notes, with Neil, for Kylie Showgirl and the 2009 North American Tour.
A writer intrigued and fascinated with celebrity for over 20 years, Nigel’s most recent books have included biographies on Davina McCall, Ray Winstone, Christian Slater, David Tennant and Fearne Cotton, all of which are now available as eBooks. He has been published by Simon & Schuster, Blandford Press, Hamlyn, Mainstream Publishing, Omnibus Press, Ebury and John Blake Publishing – in both English and foreign language editions, which have included, most recently, The Secret World of Johnny Depp in Portuguese, Polish and Russian.
Born in Folkestone, Kent, Nigel, who studied history, English literature, and art at St George’s School in Tunbridge Wells, and screenwriting at the Raindance Film School in London, travels occasionally to New York and Los Angeles for author interviews and research.
